GCR announces changes to its international news lineup. At Geneva Community Radio, we remain committed to bringing you news stories that matter. In an American media landscape dominated by meaningless stories that pass as serious news, GCR strives to bring you in depth reports from some of the world's top public broadcasters. Effective Monday, December 16th, GCR will make changes to its international news lineup. We regret to inform our listeners that we no longer have access to on demand audio from IBA, or Kol Israel. This is because the World Radio Network (WRN) has suspended its audio on demand service. GCR relied on this service to bring us the IBA feed each weekday morning, and there does not appear to be a suitable replacement for this feed on the IBA website. GCR will continue to air "live" WRN programming from 2:00 to 6:00 A.M. Monday to Friday. In Kol Israel's former time slot, we will now be running a 15 minute version of Deutsche Welle's news magazine, Journal. GCR is also very pleased to announce the addition of a new broadcaster to our international news lineup. Effective Monday, GCR will begin airing select programming from the Voice of America (VOA), the flagship US international broadcasting service. This will give GCR listeners yet another perspecitve on the events shaping our world. We will air two daily news magazines from VOA. Daybreak Africa, weekday mornings at 6:35, and International Edition, weeknights at 7:05, as part of a new nightly news hour. The second half of that hour will be occupied by Deutsche Welle's Africa Link, now at a more appropriate time, as the show is intended from afternoon/evening clearance. As always, we welcome your feedback about these changes. Feel free to e-mail or call the station with your comments. Thanks for listening, and we sincerely hope you will enjoy the new shows.

GCR announces changes to its Classical programming.

On Sunday, November 17th, changes will be made to Geneva Community Radio's Classical lineup.

These changes are being implemented for a combination of two reasons.

1). It was recently announced by WWFM, also known as The Classical Network, that the weekly Chamber music program Indivisible by Four with host Carl Hemmingsen would be cancelled. This has now come to pass. As always, Geneva Community Radio regrets the cancellation of such high quality programming. Unfortunately, budget cuts at WWFM have required that station to cut the number of specialty programs produced for syndication. This is a situation that is beyond Geneva Community Radio's control.

WWFM has offered a new program to Geneva Community Radio. Curtis Calls, which is also hosted by Carl Hemmingsen. This weekly program features recitals from faculty and students at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. The show will air Wednesday afternoons at 3:00.

2). With the cancellation of Indivisible by Four and the addition of Curtis Calls, Geneva Community Radio re-evaluated the positions of all of its Classical programming. We will now schedule these shows by common theme wherever possible. For example, Monday afternoons will feature shows that concentrate on a particular instrument or group of instruments in the Classical realm. Thursday's offerings will now focus exclusively on the more contemporary aspects of Classical music, and a portion of Sunday's block will feature three hours of music from the Early, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. This block will include the programs Harmonia, Distant Mirror (now a one-hour program featuring Early and Renaissance music), and the new offering Tafelmusik, featuring an hour of pieces from the Baroque era.

We hope you will enjoy our new Classical music lineup. As always, your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Feel free to e-mail or call the station with your thoughts and ideas.

The program schedule page has been updated to reflect all of the changes.

Thank you for your continued support of Geneva Community Radio.

Free Speech Radio News to cease production.

Once again, we regretfully come to you with news of another program cancellation.

As the financial crisis at Pacifica deepens, Free Speech Radio News, which relies heavily on funding from Pacifica, will cease production this Friday, 9/27.

As a result of this development, Geneva Community Radio will be implementing a new schedule on weeknights between 6 and 7 PM. Be sure to check our schedule page later this week for full details.

We hope you will enjoy the new lineup, including several programs that are new to GCR.

GCR Announces Partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Geneva

Geneva Community Radio is pleased to announce  a partnership with The Boys And Girls Club of Geneva.

This partnership was many months in the making. and will ensure a sound future for the radio station. It will present new opportunities for youth, teens, and other members of the Geneva community to produce new and exciting content.

Also, the Boys and Girls Club will act as the licensee of our proposed low power FM station.

The first major development in this partnership was a move of the GCR studio into the Geneva Community Center at 160 Carter Road. We anticipate this will be the first of many exciting developments for the station.

There will be no immediate programming changes as a result of this partnership. GCR still maintains its commitment to broadcast diverse programming from around the world, and from within our community.

If you have questions regarding this partnership, please e-mail the station at genevaradio@yahoo.com, or give us a call at (315) 308-4272.

Thank you for your continued support of community radio in the central Finger Lakes.

Remembering Terry Doyle

Dear Listeners.

It is my sad duty to inform you of the passing of Terry Doyle, host of the 'Imprint' radio show which was heard on several community radio stations across upstate NY, including Geneva Community Radio.

The details of his passing are still sketchy at this point. We do know that he suffered a heart attack a couple of weeks back, and had been recovering in a Cooperstown hospital. He e-mailed his affiliates earlier this week, advising them that production of the anual 'Imprint Awards Special' would be delayed until next week. Then came the tragic news of his passing on Wednesday, 2/6. My thanks to Gary Wickham at WUOW in Oneonta for sending word of his passing.

We at Geneva Community Radio are proud to have known Terry, and to have been an affiliate of the 'Imprint' program until the very end. This is a tragic loss for local music in upstate NY. To be sure, his program was unique. There will never be another show like 'Imprint'.

We will air the final episode of 'Imprint' one last time this Friday, 2/8, at 4:00 PM. It is unclear at this point what will replace the program in this time slot. Please keep checking this blog, and the schedule page, for those details as they become available.

Schedule Changes

Happy New Year from all of us at Geneva Community Radio. The New Year is bringing a few changes to the GCR schedule. Here they are:

Soundscape 100 Ceases Production

The weekly pop music program from DW Radio has been cancelled. We regret this, as it was a truly unique program as far as pop music shows go. Unfortunately, it's out of our hands.

This will set in motion several schedule changes.

On Friday evenings, the lineup between 8 and 10 PM will look like this:

8:00 World in Progress
8:30 Pulse
9:00 The Treatment
9:30 The Business

World in Progress had been airing Sunday afternoons. Thus, a few changes to the Sunday schedule to avoid duplication, and to ensure diversity in our weekly schedule.

We are pleased to announce the addition of three short weekly magazines from UN Radio. Between 3:00 and 3:30 PM, we will air UN Calling Asia, UN and Africa, and Women, respectively. This will be followed by:

3:30 Dateline Pacific
4:00 The Shortwave Report
4:30 Voices of Our World

Lastly, a change to our block of media related shows. We've decided to try a new show during this block. Media Network Plus is a production of PCJ Media. We felt it would be a better fit with Glenn Hauser's World of Radio. We may consider expanding the media block in the future, at which time we could consider bringing back the International Radio Report, along with the possibility of adding one or two other shows we'd like to add.

As always, we'd like your feedback. Your input is critical when it comes to deciding what programs we air. Send us your feedback. Tell us what you want to hear (and even what you DON'T want to hear) on Geneva Community Radio.
