We at Geneva Community Radio would like to wish all of you a safe and happy Holiday Season. Please join us for special holiday programming beginning today (12/24) at 3 p.m. with a special holiday edition of Radio Deluxe. From there, you'll be treated to a wide variety of music with a holiday theme. Everything from Jazz to Folk to Classical to Oldies. We'll also throw in several hours of old time radio shows with a holiday theme to them. So stay logged on to GCR all Christmas Even night and all Christmas Day for a variety of music that's sure to put you in the holiday mood. It's our gift to you, our listeners.
Our regular program schedule will return sometime on Wednesday, 12/26. Because we will be switching from our usual automation system to a Winamp playlist, we will be joining the feed of the World Radio Network once the holiday programming concludes. This programming will remain on the air until we return to the studio to resume normal programming. We are taking this opportunity to spend quality time with our respective families, as most of you will be doing.
So, again, please enjoy the music, and thanks for listening to and supporting Geneva Community Radio!

New Phone Number
We've changed telephone providers. We were hoping to retain our old number, but this ultimately could not be done. Our new number is 315-308-4272. Please note this change accordingly.

FCC Announces New Filing Window for LPFM
As manager of Geneva Community Radio, I take great pride in telling you, our listeners and followers, that the moment we've been waiting for has finally arrived.
On November 30th, 2012, the FCC announced plans for a new filing window for LPFM stations, which will open in October of next year.
You can read a press release about this announcement from the Prometheus Radio Project by clicking here.
Okay. So, what now?
More than ever before, Geneva Community Radio needs YOUR support. When we say "support" we mean it in two ways.
!!!Host Your Own Radio Show!!!
We want to hear from YOU if you have an idea for a radio program. As a community radio station, GCR is open to all members of the Geneva community (and beyond). Unlike commercial radio, GCR doesn't have a predetermined format. We pride ourselves on offering programming that isn't typically found on the radio dial. We want our programmers to be original and creative, and for our programs to be unique and different. For it is this quality that will truly set GCR apart from the other stations in the region. To learn more about hosting your own show, click the Get Involved link on this site.
!!!Donate to GCR!!!
Geneva Community Radio is non-profit, non-commercial, and 100% community supported. FCC regulations forbid us from running conventional commercials (not that we would even if we could). And, unlike public radio stations, we receive absolutely no funding from the state or federal government. We truly are on our own here, folks. This is why your financial support is critical. And please, don't think that your contribution won't make a difference. It is that sort of mentality that holds community radio stations back. Consider this: If every resident of the city of Geneva gave just a few dollars, we would have the money necessary to build our new LPFM station just as soon as we are issued a construction permit. That's right, just a few dollars. Surely, even in these tough economic times, you could spare that much to bring innovative radio to this community, could you not? If you answered yes to that question, then go to the Donate page of this site to find out how you can support Geneva Community Radio. And, to all those who donate, we say THANK YOU!
Let's start building this brand new radio station, and bring community powered radio to Geneva and the central Finger Lakes.

Radio Netherlands Worldwide to cease production of programs in English.
According to an article published on the Radio Netherlands Worldwide website entitled We're Changing, RNW will cease all English language programming at the end of June. This is the result of steep budget cuts imposed by the Dutch government, along with changes to RNW's mandate.
We at Geneva Community Radio deeply regret this development, as we've been carrying RNW programming since our inception. Unfortunately, it's a situation we have no control over as an RNW affiliate.
As you might expect, this will lead to many changes in our program schedule. We have decided to go ahead with the changes immediately, introducing several exciting new programs to our lineup, and time shifting several other shows that are already part of our schedule.
In the next few days, a new schedule will be posted, complete with all the changes. We hope you will find the new programming to be entertaining and informative. As always, your feedback as listeners is very important to us. Let us know what programs you'd like to hear, and when you'd like to hear them. After all, this station belongs to the community. Your opinions matter! E-mail us at genevaradio@yahoo.com with your thoughts and ideas.
Thanks for listening, and for supporting community radio in the central Finger Lakes.
