Schedule Changes

Recently, GCR was notified in writing by Deutsche Welle Radio that several of their long-running programs would be cancelled as they make changes to their broadcasting strategy. We regret this situation as we have carried all of these programs since our inception nearly one year ago. Unfortunately, it is a situation that we have absolutely no control over.

The following programs are no longer offered by DW Radio:
Newslink/Newslink Plus
European Business Week
Arts on the Air
Inspired Minds

All other DW programs will remain on GCR at their usual times.

Naturally, this has forced us to make several schedule changes. All of these changes, including the addition of some new programs, are reflected in the updated program schedule on this website.

We do not anticipate any more schedule changes in the near future. As always, though, all programming on Geneva Community Radio may be subject to change at any time, for a variety of reasons.

We apologize for any inconvenience these unexpected schedule changes may have caused. Any questions or comments should be directed to genevaradio@yahoo.com, or by phone at 315-759-5178

Thanks for listening!

We're Back!

After several delays, and making all the necessary upgrades to our main computer after getting it back from the repair shop, it gives me great pleasure to announce that Geneva Community Radio has finally returned to the air.

Our thanks to our listeners, programmers, and supporters for their words of encouragement, and for their patience. Now, let us hope this doesn't happen again!

Status Update

On Friday (10/7), I was informed by our computer techs that the virus that infected our production computer was more serious than previously thought. To make a long story short, they have no choice but to reload the PC's operating system.

The new target date for returning the computer to us is Monday (10/10). After that, I'll need to download all of the programs we use to access and edit all our radio shows. This process may take another day or two.

If there are no other problems, I hope to have the station back up and runningby the 12th or 13th at the very latest. I apologize to all our listeners, and our programmers, for the inconvenience this outage has caused. I would also like to thank all of you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Rest assured, GCR will be back, and better than ever!

Station Down Due To Virus!

I regret to inform our listeners that Geneva Community Radio is off the air until further notice. The reason? We were hit with the OpenCloud AV rogue antivirus software. This infected our production and download computer, but, thankfully, NOT our streaming computer. I am, however, very wary of transferring files from our production computer to our streaming computer until the infection is cleared up. No need to infect both computers, right?!

Monday (10/3), a call will be made to a local computer tech to explain the seriousness of the situation. The people I do business with are reputable, and I am confident they will be able to get things back to normal. However, because they are basically the only computer repair shop in town, they may be backed up, and it may take several days before they can return the computer back to us, and we can get things back online again.

I want to thank everyone for their patience, and for their understanding. Believe me, this is extremely frustrating. But, it's all part of being on the internet.

Keep checking this blog for news on our return to the internet airwaves.

Geneva Community Radio's New Program Schedule

It gives me great pleasure to announce that this week, GCR kicks off its new operating schedule. All of the programs we've been carrying are still on the station, many of them at new times. We are pleased to announce the addition of many new programs from many new sources, including the World Radio Network, among others.

Another advantage to the expanded schedule is the fact that we can now offer local community members more opportunities to host their own shows. For now, we have reserved most of the evening hours for local programming.

If you are interested in producing your own radio show for Geneva Community Radio, then please get in touch with us immediately. All the details about being a volunteer DJ on GCR can be found on the Get Involved page of this site.

Streaming Back to Normal

I am pleased to announce that our streaming via Loud City should now be functioning normally.

I have signed a new deal with Server Room, to host a dedicated Shoutcast server that will feed audio to Loud City on a far more reliable server that should provide a stable stream for anyone wishing to tune in.

Please see our Listen page to access the stream. All streams with previous partners are no longer active.

We have contracted with Server Room for a premium Shoutcast server. This means we are now paying more each month to bring this stream to the world. Now more than ever, your donations are very much needed. Please see our Donate page to learn how to send your contributions via PayPal. We appreciate your support.

Problems With Our Stream.

I would like to apologize for the frustrating technical difficulties we are experiencing with our main stream thru Loud City. Please know that I am working with Loud City to fix the problem, and hope to have the stream up and running properly as soon as possible.

In the meantime, I am providing a link to our raw feed from Listen 2 My Radio dot com. This is the feed used to send audio to Loud City. This feed is functioning normally. Please keep an eye on this space for further updates. Thanks for your understanding.

Big Changes at GCR

Geneva Community Radio is pleased to announce some changes that will make this radio station even better than before.

Effective immediately, we are using a new streaming platform. We are working with two companies. One is Listen2MyRadio.com, which hosts our Shoutcast server. The other is LoudCity.com, which provides a more accessible relay of our stream to a larger audience. Also, now that we are part of the LoudCity community, our music licensing fees are covered in our monthly subscription.

This new stream should provide higher sound quality, and more reliability than our previous platform. Let us know what you think of the new stream by sending us feedback. See our contact page for all the details.

Also, we have recently purchased a brand new computer that is to be used exclusively for the radio station. Up to now, we were using a computer that is bogged down with other programs, as it is mainly a PC for personal use. This new PC will be used only for streaming our broadcasts, and storing all of our programming, announcements, and so on.

We are happy to announce a new programming agreement with Deutsche Welle World, the external service of Germany's premier public broadcaster. We have added several of their programs already, with more to come in the future.

Lastly, and perhaps, most importantly, we now have a way for you to show your appreciation for our efforts in a monitary form. You can now make contributions to GCR via PayPal, or by check or money order. This is extremely important. Most of the above improvements cost money. Your support is critical to ensuring we can continue to improve and maintain this valuable resource in the community. Please see our donate page for further details. Thanks in advance for your support!
